San Ramon Residents: Hazardous Waste Door to Door Collection Services Program

Hazardous items like pesticides, fertilizers, pool & photo chemicals, paint/varnish, toxic cleaning products, smoke detectors, mercury-containing items (thermometers, CFLs/fluorescent lights, etc.), unwanted medications, and sharps (needles, lancets, etc.) require special handling. DO YOU HAVE LEFTOVER PAINT?

Did you know? Many paint retailers will take back your leftover paint at no charge! Visit PaintCare.org to find the nearest, most convenient paint drop-off site to you.

  • All PaintCare sites accept up to 5 gallons per visit (some take more).
  • Please call ahead to confirm business hours and ask if they can accept the type and amount of paint you would like to recycle.
  • Sites do not accept aerosols (spray paint), leaking, unlabeled, or empty containers.

PROPER DISPOSAL OF SHARPS

Sharps may be disposed of at the San Ramon Police Department:

The drop box is located in the lobby and is accessible Monday – Friday, 8 am – 5 pm, and is closed on weekends.

PROPER DISPOSAL OF UNWANTED OR EXPIRED MEDICATIONS

Disposing of medications down the toilet, drain or in the garbage (residential or commercial) is harmful to the environment. You can dispose of your unwanted or expired prescription and non-prescription medications in the Pharmaceutical Disposal Bin located in the lobby of the San Ramon Police Department:

Monday – Friday: 8 a.m.-5 p.m.
Weekends – CLOSED

Pharmaceuticals are only accepted for disposal during business hours, please DO NOT leave medication outside the Police Department’s front door when the business office is closed.

Pills, as well as liquids, creams, and gels in the original container are accepted. Please, be sure the lids are on tight and they are sealed in a plastic bag. The San Ramon Police Department can provide you with a plastic bag, if needed.

San Ramon single-family residents can use the curbside collection program for the following items:

 

HOUSEHOLD BATTERY COLLECTION

In a zipper-lock style bag on top of (not inside) your Recyclables cart. Please tape terminals on 9-volt batteries. No automotive or liquid lithium ion batteries allowed.

USED MOTOR OIL & COOKING OIL COLLECTION

In 1-gallon, or smaller, sealed screw-top containers. Used oil filters in a sealed zipper-lock style bag. Place next to (not inside) your Recyclables cart. Oil jugs and oil filter bags may be requested from ACI of San Ramon. No other automotive liquids accepted.
